Bunny chow (adult)

This South African fast food dish, is a hollowed-out white loaf of bread filled with curry.

Called ‘scambane’, ‘kota’ (quarter) or even just ‘bunny’. Chow means ‘dish’ in the local slang.

Bunny chow was cooked first in Durban. The stories of the origin date as far as the migrant Indian workers’ arrival in South Africa. The Indian laborers who came to work to the sugar cane plantations carried their curries in this bread.

The vegetarian version is the ‘beans bunny’.
